The most important thing a kid can do.

Changing the game

Every child knows how to play. But not every child has the opportunity. From State of Play, extensive regional research initiatives set in motion by the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, we know that play is essential to a child’s healthy development. But due to a shortage of places where they can engage in non-structured play, fewer kids than ever are joining in the fun.

That’s about to change. Built to Play is back again in 2019.

We’re investing up to $10 million for more skateparks and play spaces throughout Western New York and Southeast Michigan. Ready to build one in your community?

Playing Well Together

The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation is joining forces with The Skatepark Project and KABOOM! to help communities do something amazing:

Give children and youth safe, exciting places to do what they do best—Play.

The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation invests in groundbreaking work throughout Southeast Michigan and Western New York with an eye toward one simple goal: changing lives for the better. That’s why we’re investing up to $10 million to fund the Built to Play initiative, and have partnered with The Skatepark Project and KABOOM! to make a huge difference for our young people. Learn more today.

KABOOM! is dedicated to achieving playspace equity for every kid. We’ve built or improved over 17,000 incredible places to play inspired by the designs, courage and leadership of communities. So naturally, we had to be part of Built to Play and their bold vision for bringing great playspaces to every kid.

With a focus on supporting and empowering youth, The Skatepark Project has helped build over 500 skateparks across all 50 states. As a Built to Play partner, we hope to impact children and teens in a big way.
